Make rent receipts for HRA

Salaried tenants give rent receipts to their employer to get HRA exemption. Type the details once and get one receipt per month for the whole period.

Step by step

  1. Landlord (who receives the rent). Landlord's name and Landlord's PAN.
  2. Tenant and property. Tenant's name and the rented address.
  3. Rent and months. Rent per month (₹), From month, To month, and Date on each receipt: last day of the month, first day, or one date on all.
  4. Mode. Paid by and reference.
  5. Save and print. One receipt per month, three to an A4 page. The landlord signs each.

Worked example

Rent ₹22,000 a month, April 2026 to March 2027: 12 receipts of ₹22,000, yearly ₹2,64,000. Rent is above ₹1 lakh a year, so the landlord's PAN must be given to the employer.

Rules and dates

Landlord's PAN is needed when yearly rent is above ₹1,00,000. From 1 April 2026 the declaration is Form 124 (earlier Form 12BB) and it also asks if the landlord is a relative. HRA exemption works only under the old tax regime; the 50% city list has 8 cities from 1 April 2026 (adds Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad).
